Whenever we are in Ipoh, we always get utterly stressed out because we definitely get lost in their mazes of one way streets and similar looking blocks of buildings. Moreover, all their streets have almost same names, like Raja something something.
So, yesterday, we were famished after driving from Lumut to Ipoh. We were desperately searching for a decent place to eat breakfast along the way but there is none. Finally, we stumbled into Silibin and I saw a beautiful church on a Sunday morning. (I think it is the Lady of Lourdes? which is a Catholic church?) But everyone is too hungry so no one wants to stop the car for me to take a pic. What more, celebrate mass.
Finally, after a few rounds, we found the road sign that says, ‘Pusat Bandaraya’ (city centre) and we wanted to hunt for Foh San. After several rounds, we can’t find it. And we bumped right into Kedai Kopi Tet Shin which is on the junction of Jalan Yau Tet Shin and Raja Muda Aziz (?).
I had the Hakka mee which is not bad but I found Ipoh food to be rather bland. The noodle is usually handmade and a meat gravy is poured on top of it.
Some horrible tasting wan than mee. I had a look-see and found a lot of people eating wan than mee so I thought it is a safe bet. But the noodle is way, way too hard and smelled of karn sui or alkaline water.
This Hongkong chee cheong fun is good though. They are freshly made on the spot. The above plate is stuffed with char siew.
This bigger plate is with prawns and chilli sauce. Nice and cheap.
I wanted to order Ipoh White Coffee but unfortunately, my Cantonese did not get through to the old man. So, I had to settled for Nescafe iced. This is another thing I dread about eating in Ipoh. I am the only one who can speak a few words of Cantonese and I had to order foods for all my kids and husband. It is tough, very tough.

(May 2, 2006 - 12:33 am)hmmm… for the handful of times I was in Ipoh ordering “kopi yat pui” always meant white coffee is served. I can hardly string a sentence in Cantonese but I guess all coffee served in Ipoh coffee shops are white coffee 🙂 but then I might be the ignorant one here.

(May 3, 2006 - 1:15 pm)yeah, Ming Court has one of the best dim sums.. and it’s cheap.. sometimes we would just drive up from klang to ipoh early in the morning to have the dim sum, and then come back -.-“… but, well, not so often anymore.. but if we happen to travel to any northen parts, even hatt yai, we’ll def drop by Ming Court..

I’ll have to confirm with the name of the coffee shop. As far as I know, it’s not one of the eating places I frequent. 🙂
Foh San dim sum is good but too expensive for me. I go to Hillcity Pengkalan Emas to take my dimsum. Nope, theirs are not the best one (compared to Foh San and Ming Court) but definitely the cheapest. Weekdays & non-public holidays RM1-50 for everything!!!! Weekends and public holidays…RM1.95.
