Cafe De Tai Tong - Crispy noodle & yam puff

This Cafe De Tai Tong has no relation with the chain of Tai Thong restaurants.  This is an old dim sum place in Penang.  You can read more about the place and location in my Malaysia Best food blog.

The most popular noodle here is the above crispy noodle.  It has the thicky grave sauce like hor fun but it comes with crispy, noodle which had been deep fried.  I am not sure which noodle they used to deep fry with?  Is it wantan noodle?

The dim sums are freshly out of the kitchen.  Here the Indon girl is scooping up fried items.

We had very hot radish cake (lopak kou) with crispy dried prawns and this yam puff (wu kok).  The wu kok is nice because it is not overpowering with too much 5-spice powder and the meat is not coloured red like some places.

During weekends, you have to fight for a place to sit.  :)  They are open for morning dim sum, lunch selling noodles and at dinner time, they have dim sum, rice dishes and noodles.

Both look very yummy…especially the hu kok. Mmm..oily yam and pork goodness…

Noodles are probably fried egg noodles. Certainly looks tastier than the ones usually sold in chai tia ma or markets ;)

Hi lilian..am a Penangite myself…yea that place is very famous for the fried noodles. I thought the quality of the food there has deteriorated but according to u, it still tastes as good as ever!I should head down there and give it a try. It’s been years since I’ve been there. Talking about Cintra street, have you eaten at Sky’s (char siew rice)?
