We have a few Hokkien Mee stalls here on the island that are very elusive. They start opening their stall early and within 2 hours, they had finished selling. I don’t have the kind of patience to wait for them because the queue is very, very long. Moreover, many people will pack lots of packets, i.e. as many as 10 or 20 packets for them to bring to outstation. *roll eyes* My ex-boss’s wife used to ta-pau them and bring on her flight to Singapore too. How’s that?
This morning, I went to one behind Super Lai-Lai and though the stall had a mountain of noodle, he told me that they are sold out. There is another one at Jalan Perak which sold out even earlier.
So, I ended up with this stall at the corner of Jalan Macalister and Rangoon Road. Can you see the tiny squids there? My hubby found them disgusting and threw every piece to me because he hates squids. So, I ended up with a big bowl of Hokkien Mee with tiny squids, mantis prawns, prawns, meat and lots of fried lard. Yummm…baby squids eyes, teeth, stomach contents and all.

(May 20, 2006 - 2:50 am)The best hokkien mee for me is the one opposite the Pulau Tikus police station, the one at the corner coffee shop.. then there’s another one opposite Komtar or rather opposite Shangri La hotel (now Trader’s hotel) which starts selling late at night. Yummy!

in the southern part of msia, prawn mee is almost the same as hokkien mee in penang?

(September 19, 2006 - 3:40 pm)I just got back from Penang over the weekend and I was brought to this stall and I loved it!! It taste nothing like the ones we have in KL! I ate so much in Penang that it’s not even funny … If I stay in Penang I wouldn’t be able to fit through the door!
