The turkeys have landed…duh

You know what is most interesting about people? The moment you say about some shortage (e.g. sugar, flour etc), they will go out and buy in bulk and store them. Never mind that they may not be able to consume them all. It is the thought of wanting to horde things for a sense of security.

Therefore, when there was a mention of turkeys shortage a few weeks back, people will rush to grab a turkey each just for the heck of it. Well, I am one of them, hahaha. Suddenly, turkey become the novelty of the season. It doesn’t matter if you are a Christians or not, you just want to have something unattainable.

Well, some folks did have trouble buying turkeys and one of them wrote to the paper to complain. Thanks to her, the turkeys are now released from their detention. I have a lot of issues with this turkey thingie but I shall not express them here. However, does it occur to you that it is ridiculous that when turkeys have been declared as non-halal (eventhough they are certified halal by the Islamic auhority in USA/other country of origin) the shipments were held back by the Islamic authority in Malaysia?

Selangor Islamic Department (Jais) public relations officer Fakrul Azam Yahya said the department was aware that a container of turkeys had been detained at the port.

“It was due to some technicalities, but the issue has been resolved. In fact, the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) had earlier issued a directive allowing for the fast clearance of imported turkeys especially for Christmas,” he said.

Why not just cut the whole red tape and view turkey as non-halal? No one is any lesser off without halal turkeys. After all, how many people can afford a turkey? It is like RM100 per bird.

I have a beautiful roast turkey recipes somewhere in my sites. Layered with streaky bacons and seasoned with XO Brandy. I tell you, it is the best turkey recipe ever. BTW, my turkey is from France, a free-range bird from Ronsard.
